conscience- lover v children

Ok, what do you do about this?
Lived with very difficult husband for twenty years, never really happy & often very unhappy. I wanted children & had many & they are great. Most are more or less grown now. One 11 year old still quite small. After an 18 month crisis period I moved out of the bedroom & now am in a granny flat so I still look after the children & cook etc. The children are all very close & I wouldn't want them separated.
About 20 months ago I met a woman & we walked & talked & sang & had lunches and bizarrely, fell in love. I love this woman as I have never loved anyone before & the relationship in itself is wonderful, but what do do about the conflict between her & the family. The children only know her as my friend. I feel very torn in two- between what my heart wants and cries out for after so many cold years, and what I should do & be for my children.
Has anyone out there been in my position? Have any advice, even advice I wouldn't want to hear?
Thanks
