Hi all
Well a few updates before Christmas and New Year hits us.

Everyone at the charity Gay Surrey hope you all had a great year and you are looking forward to the festive times ahead before 2009 rears its head ready for us to do it all again.

The charity has done so much this year, including the gay parents group, groups and websites for young people, the GS lounge, World Aids Day, Hate Crime Reports and so much more.

We would like to thank everyone that has supported these groups and many others around Surrey. A big thanks to the gang of dedicated volunteers and Trustees at Gay Surrey for all their hard work to make a real difference in and around our county.
2009 is set to become a great year already, so we have some updates for you
· Sad News - The Lord Campbell in Aldershot has closed down – yet another social meeting place gone.

· Life Imprisonment for killer of Jeff Akers

Mark Malone, from Walton-on-Thames, who was found guilty at the Old Bailey last month of the murder of Peter Jeffrey Akers, has been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum to serve 30 years.

Gino Meriano Chair of Gay Surrey says "At last justice is served, now others can learn the lesson that an inclusive society will not tolerate any form of Hate Crime and it’s now time to see more outcomes, solutions and actions by the relevant authorities in 2009."

· GS lounge – Thank you to everyone that has supported the Guildford nights since the closure of the Hautboy Inn, I am pleased to say we will be carrying on the nights in 2009 and have confirmed the following dates for your diary

· The Equality and Human Rights Commission South East Capacity Project : LGB research

I am so excited to tell you that Gay Surrey recently submitted a bid to deliver a capacity development project for the South East region for the Equalities and Human Rights Commission.

I have been informed that our bid was extremely professional and as a result we have been successful. This means Gay Surrey is the commission’s preferred provider.

This is exciting news not only for the charity by winning the bid but for our community as a whole, our research will surround what the community of the South East South East feel about the public and private sectors; how can things be changed and what action needs doing now – for example, Police, Health Service, Education, Young people to name but a few. So watch this space, more information coming soon.

7th Feb – Top 20 songs – Tease is held on the first Saturday of every month at Rubix, the University of Surrey Students’ Union nightclub in Guildford, Surrey.

· Saucy Events sponsors Gay Surrey

Our Friend Barry is putting on a great range of club nights around Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire –– show him your support on sign up and get the latest details when they are announced

· IDAHO 2009

Don’t forget to put the 17th May in your diary for the “International Day Against Homophobia” – it’s all about family and community spirit, an afternoon of chat and chill, burgers and a special IDAHO drink, followed by speeches surrounding hate crime in Surrey and across the globe and a special awards ceremony for organisation’s and people’s contribution to helping the community of Surrey

Exhibitors will be on hand to offer help and support.

That’s all for now... except to say...

Have a great time and see you in the New Year
